Born in 2005 as a shoe boutique and named after owner Stephanie Cammarata’s late grandmother, Williamsburg’s Archangela was remodeled in 2007 to focus on women’s apparel by local and emerging designers. Shoppers who venture away from the hubbub of Metropolitan Avenue are rewarded with a lovely, versatile collection of clothes at the sleek Southside storefront, accented with hardwood floors, deep purple walls, and bold graphic fabrics in black and white. Cammarata markets simple but well-tailored cotton and silk dresses and separates by Dorothy Lee, Walter, and Vancouver-based labels Dace and Lily & Jae, plus casual but luxe Cri de Coeur shoes and leather bags by Greenpoint-based Hayden Harnett. A few cheaper, private-label options and affordable TOMS shoes for men and kids can also be found among the mostly higher-end pieces.
