Profile
Mom Jennifer Cattaui created Babesta to give hipster parents an alternative to the cutesy, anodyne designs typical of baby and toddler clothing. The West Broadway space is crammed with clothes, toys and media with an edge. Parents can inspire rock-n-roll ‘tude with Rowdy Sprout printed onesies or Rockabye Baby! CDs, which transform rock songs by popular bands like U2 and Coldplay into instrumental lullabies. Babesta is at its best when it comes to printed knits: For around $20 to $40, Parents can cultivate their children’s tastes, be they political (a Chairman Mao or JFK onesie), musical (Jimi Hendrix and Rolling Stones hoodies), or intellectual (Stephen Colbert t-shirts). Sizes range from infant up to 12 years. At Babesta Cribz, the sister store on Warren street, look for linens, crib sets, furniture and strollers by brands like Auggie, Oeuf and Bugaboo.
