Profile
Babylicious owners and neighborhood moms Barbara Tomasulo and Carol Adams opened up this Tribeca shop in 2005 when Happy Baby Toys moved out. The narrow store, with colorful balls hanging from the ceiling and ABCs painted on the wall, is divided into small but packed sections. Clothing for newborns through size 7 is the specialty, and store favorites include hoodies; easy-to-clean bibs; polos from Icky Baby in California in fun prints like florals, plaids, and sushi rolls; and Brooklyn-based Appaman’s tiny track suits, halter dresses, and tees with urban decals like bulldogs and motorcycles. In the toys department, parents will find Learning Resources’ realistic-looking, rubbery fake foods for pretend play and an under-two area with soft, activity-based items. Early reading selections and a smattering of parenting titles make up the books section. The plush division has Kaloo’s bright, super-soft musical pull toys for cribs and enormous Jelly Cats stuffed animals, and the bath department features gifty items like Alex shaving kits and Elegant Baby animal squirtie toys. But it’s not just the eclectic stock that brings in customers: every Monday morning at 9:30, free storytime draws dozens of preschoolers and their moms.
