Founded by former international humanitarian aid worker Carol Puzone, this Fair Trade–certified furniture and home furnishings shop prides itself on social and environmental awareness. The current owner aims to connect artisans from low-income countries with the global consumer market. The space has an organic feel, with earth-tone tiles on the floor and art and decorative mirrors adorning the walls. Intricately carved hardwood bookshelves, headboards, and cabinets are from Tropical Salvage, an Oregon-based company that crafts its pieces in Indonesia from trees that fall during volcanoes and landslides. Knickknacks and home décor from around the world are scattered among the furniture, including reclaimed wood bowls from the Kenya-based Kahero Farm, handmade soaps from Sudan, tiny animals made from recycled bike chains in Vietnam, La Chamba ceramic cookware from Colombia, and a large collection of handcrafted jewelry from Ethiopia, India, Thailand, Mexico, and Mali. The store also carries a selection of coffee, tea, and chocolate from Equal Exchange, a Massachusetts-based co-op that partners with farmers in Latin America and Africa.
