Bazzini is a store that's proud of its past, as evidenced by the oversized "1886" emblazoned on the back of employee T-shirts. That was the year Anthony Bazzini bought the nut-processing plant where he was hired when he first came to America from Italy. Today, the A.L. Bazzini Company processes its nuts in the Bronx, while the original plant has been transformed into a gleaming gourmet grocery. Lofty ceilings, marble counters and a grey-and-white tiled floor recall an old—world market; one corner of the vast shop is devoted to dried fruits and nuts—among them colossal pistachios, milk chocolate cashews and cinnamon sugar almonds. The rest of the space offers all manner of high-end edibles, plus some tableware. Along with produce, olives and chocolates, you'll find deli counters stocked with cheese and meat. Bazzini also has a café that serves desserts and hot dishes.
