This worldwide chain may describe its line of clothing as having "an unmistakable hint of sensuality," but it's actually more of a wallop, despite a relatively understated retail space that feels like a well-lit version of a suburban nightclub. Bebe's overarching ethos is pervasive, shiny and bold, with an emphasis on the sultry provocateur: Trend-chasers can find dozens of form-fitting, predictably sexy styles, from halters, shrugs, camisoles and lace vests to short jackets, come-hither pants, and scoop-back dresses. Fabrics range from silk chiffon to gold brocade, and virtually everything is cut in a flowing or body-draped style that would befit a Fleetwood Mac-era Stevie Nicks with an amped-up dose of drama. The brand is known for its bejeweled denim skirts and plunging jackets—spotted from Paris (Hilton) to J Lo's Bronx, with detours via pop queens Alicia and Britney. For more modest urban mortals, denims are also available sans sequins, studs or embroidery. Bebe also carries belts, bags, scarves, and jewelry, as well as outerwear in leather and fur. Their limited shoe line features both sneakers and strappy stilettos ideal for a tabletop frug.
