This venue is closed.

Perhaps the city’s only old-fashioned general store, this cute little throwback carries vintage fly tackle and apothecary jars alongside the best dime-store candy selection around. An antique canoe from 1907 is in itself worthy of a visit, not to mention the soda fountain that serves up authentic malteds and egg creams.

What a hidden treasure is the Bespeckled Trout! After our visit this week, I can list at least four reasons why you should experience this marvelous shop - which is as much coffee shop as it is antique store! 1. The proprietor (and actor, and chef!), Craig Bero, is filled with fascinating and hilarious stories after running Bespeckled Trout for the past 13 years! (He even gave us a brief walking tour of the neighborhood, its history, the playwrights, etc.!) 2. His Chai Tea is to die for - and it was served in 100-year old china! 3. Although the selection is limited, the antiques are unlike any you will find in the city. 4. Helen Hunt, Julia Roberts, Danny DiVito, are just a few celebrities who frequent this one-of-a-kind shop. Need a change from Broadway and the bright lights? Check out this hidden gem in the West Village - you'll be hooked! I give it my highest recommendation!
