Despite its name, British American House purveys mostly Italian-made men’s suits, phalanxes of which greet customers when they enter the orderly, if somewhat characterless, showroom. Sedate charcoals and blacks dominate the collection, but plaids and pinstripes can be found, as well. The loyal customer base favors the Canali, Mabro, and Belvest labels. Though the jackets and slacks must be sent back to Italy for major customizations, the downstairs resident tailor's shop can perform minor alterations and repairs. An expansive table towards the back of the store displays row after row of patterned neckties—mostly Brioni—as well as a smattering of bow ties and prepackaged dress shirts. And there’s a small collection of Caporicci and Tullio leather dress shoes next to the most eye-catching display in the store: a glass case holding Mont Blanc pens, leather pen cases, and delicate-looking gold fob watches with elegant Roman-numeral faces.
