Profile
Custom-framing shop Brooklyn Frame Works has been a Park Slope presence since 1997, moving just one block to this narrow, wood-floored location in 2007. More than 1,500 styles are available, from basic hardwoods to high-end metallic and gold-leaf frames to unique welded steel varieties. The store's specialty is conservation framing, which uses acid-free, museum-quality materials to help preserve the art. Owner George J. Winter is a School of Visual Arts grad whose previous job was mounting and restoring vintage and antique posters. His store also stocks original prints and reproductions, with a focus on Japanese woodblock prints, antique Brooklyn maps, and advertising art. Orders typically take three to four weeks but can be rushed, and there’s also a selection of ready-made photo frames.
