Profile

It’s hard to believe that this quiet, intimate Madison boutique is the busiest of Buccellati’s fourteen worldwide locations, even its Milan headquarters. The signature Eternelle rings, gold and silver accessories, and nature-inspired pieces (like a gem-encrusted butterfly pin or a floral brooch) all make use of the same craftsmanship that founder Mario Buccellati displayed three generations ago. Among its million dollar inventory are emerald-, sapphire- and ruby-dripped objets d’art, and Swiss-made watches with engraved bands inspired by Persian carpets. The second floor is dedicated exclusively to silver pieces, including leaf- and shell-shaped dishes, 100-set flatware collections, fruit- and vegetable-shaped silver-capped jars, and engraved frames.

Wedding Rings

These finely detailed, handmade gold wedding bands are popular among women who want a traditional and feminine look, but also something they won’t see all over town. The eye-catching Eternelles line ($7,000 to $40,000) showcases rings so delicate that they look like diamond netting.

This is not your typical mass produced and overdone "high end" jewelry store like Tiffany's. In all honesty, this is museum of high-art. Anyone who sees the jewelry is struck by the elegance of the piece, not the brand name. The store personnel were extremely knowledgeable and friendly, but I imagine that those not used to shopping in these environments may feel a bit intimidated. If you want a good retail experience, go to Tiffany. If you want distinctive and elegant pieces of art, go to Buccellati.

The men who work at this store were so incredibly rude to me when I stopped by this week. I would never, ever return to this store although they do have pretty jewelery--it is just not worth the abuse.
