Nosegays may not be as popular as they were in Victorian days, but sisters Audrey and Barbara Choi specialize in creating the kind of small, perky rose-and-freesia bunches that make you wish they were (think Carlotta’s bouquet in Vertigo). At Century Florist, the focus is English Garden, and that’s exactly what you get when you walk in the door: cluttered but not messy, relaxed and still dignified, warm yet professional. Small vases line the back wall and wicker baskets are stacked ceiling-high above the coolers, which are filled with assorted stems for daily arrangements. Topiaries of ivy and Italian Cypress embellish the window, and seasonal bulbs and plants make yearly rotations. If you’re still of the mindset that orchids are difficult to grow, step into the shop, ask a few questions, and come home with your very own, very hardy moth orchid. Attentive service, small floral gifts, and same-day delivery are a few of the reasons why this shop has been around since 1980.
