A visit to Charlotte Moss’s four-floor retail store feels like walking into a life-size dollhouse. Moss, an interior designer since 1985, takes a unique approach to selling her wares, decorating and furnishing a townhouse as she would for her client. So there’s a bedroom with a full-length mirror, a dresser, and several oil paintings; a flower room with gardening tools and potted plants; and a library lined with bookcases, reading chairs, and even upper-crust books with tart twists—like The Playboy Gourmet, for example. (There’s even a tumbler glass full of real Scotch.) However, aside from a “cabinet of curiosities,” which houses an assortment of knickknacks, the decorated-home concept means the selection is limited. There’s just one style of bed, armoire, and dining table for sale—though they’re changed seasonally—to go along with the lamps, chintz throw pillows, and silverware sets.
