With its blonde wood floors, shelves, and benches, and grade-school green leather upholstery, CitiShoes could be mistaken for a Buster Brown if it weren't for the strictly adult footwear. Aside from a few pairs of Bass penny loafers, the shoes displayed on the under-lit wall-to-wall shelves are geared towards men with grown-up tastes: brogues, oxfords, and tasseled loafers whose hand-tooled, hand-stained leather fills the store with the aroma of hide and polish. Made of calfskin, kid suede, and shell cordovan, Alden, Church's, and Cole Haan provide formal, classic styles; more casual but sticking to the theme of quality are Ecco, Rockport, Sebago and Paraboot. Byford socks and Trafalgar belts underscore the pervading sense of tradition here—an inevitability, it might seem, with a family business now in its third generation. Their sole nod to the fairer sex? The store carries Mephisto for women.
