A favorite of interior designers and, reportedly, Martha Stewart and Ralph Lauren, this store has been creating custom-designed, hand-built sofas, chairs, and ottomans for more than 25 years. If wandering through the maze of floor models in the calm, cavernous Flatiron showroom doesn’t inspire you, try leafing through the hundreds of upholstery catalogs in the back. Or you can simply bring in a photo of something you like and let the staff take it from there. A small upholstered armchair runs about $2,200 (plus fabric costs), while a rolled-arm sofa starts at $4,600. Salespeople walk customers through the process of choosing their furniture’s size, shape, cushions, trim, skirt, and upholstery, then hand off the specs to the in-house craftsmen. I wish I could shout from the tops of all of the buildings in New York that NO ONE should ever buy a sofa from Classic Sofa!!! $15,000.00 I paid for this sofa!!! ($8,000 was for the beautiful celadon green mohair fabric, which I had to get, bc they didn't have anything like it and wouldn't get it.) They didn't follow any of my instructions. I specified depth 33", width of each arm 3", and that I didn't want throw pillows, but instead wanted any of my $350/yd fabric that was left over returned to me. They made the depth a shallow 26", arms are 8" thick, and I have 2 ridiculous 14"x14" throw pillows, and no fabric was returned to me. It's also uncomfortable and looked frumpy from the first day. I have called them at least 100 times over the past 2 years. No one EVER answers the telephone or returns my calls. $15,000.00 down the drain and a big monstrosity in our apt. that we hate. Do not get involved with this company.

I love my sofa from Classic Sofa I have had it for over four years. I just got a second sofa for my den. It is soooo cool. Custom made to fit my room! I had good service with no issues and the sofa was ready on time.
