The name Cog & Pearl reflects the admittedly disparate tastes of its owners, husband and wife team Seth Walter and Kristin Overson. Their store is full of home accessories and furnishings as well as handmade, one-of-a-kind jewelry. The couple also stocks journals stitched together from old library-book covers, coasters cut from old vinyl records, and purses made from recycled automobile interiors—basically stuff made from other stuff. Window shoppers might get sucked in by a Bonnie Heart Clyde embroidered tie, but it’s the jewelry (like the sterling-silver, rope necklaces draped with glass beads by Bonbon Oiseau or Rebecca Haas) that keeps them coming back. Cog & Peal concerns itself with selling the artists as well as their products; information cards are placed near every item so you’re not just shopping, you’re supporting an artisan’s career.
