Casual cyclists may steer clear of this Tudor City performance bike shop, but hardcore ones race there. Pro-level bikes start at around $3,000 and are built to customers' specifications using top-of-the-line parts such as Seven frames and Vittoria tires. Because each bike part is sold (and displayed) separately, buyers can't browse completed models, except for what's featured in the store's windows. But the sales staff can walk customers through the bike-building process and will order specific parts that aren't in stock. In addition to bikes, the shop sells pro gear and accessories like Giro helmets, Assos apparel, and Oakley sunglasses. For winter training, they sell stationary bikes and trainers that attach to a bike’s rear wheel for indoor pedaling. Conrad's also repairs bikes, and customers swear by the shop's detail-oriented mechanics and their decades of experience. The crème de la crème bikes and the quality craftsmanship have been known to attract cycling celebrities, too, like Jerry Seinfeld, who's had a few bikes built here over the years.
