Profile

This venue is closed.

From blockbuster movies to county fair midways, popcorn may be one of the great unifying forces in American culture. Take the name of this popcorn emporium: Dale is Dale Humphrey, the kernel-loving elder statesman of Popcorn, Indiana (yes, for real), and Thomas is Isiah Thomas, quondam NBA star and Chicago-born popcorn enthusiast. The unlikely duo teamed up with the tri-state area store and mail-order gift company, initially called Popcorn, Indiana, to glorify the all-American snack in nearly every permutation imaginable. The scent of hot, buttered, freshly-popped corn wafts from Dale & Thomas's door, luring in a public gone stale on Jiffipop. Bags of select flavors can be purchased inside for immediate consumption, but the emphasis is on the gift tins and boxes you can order filled with delectable variations on the popcorn theme (larger barrels, baskets and tubs are available through the company website). While traditional tastes may prefer the deceptively simple Pure Pop Natural (lightly salted, no butter), the crunchy-coated but restrained Dale's Caramel, or the piquant cheddar, the store counts among its most popular flavors the far more excessive Chocolate Chunk 'n Caramel and peanut butter with white chocolate drizzle, in which the humble kernels are all but obliterated by their rich, sweet toppings.
