• David Z.

Founder David Zaken opened the first David-Z in 1983, and the shoe chain has grown to Starbucks-like ubiquity around Broadway in lower Manhattan. This central, Union Square location—with its eager staff and frequent sales—sees a steady stream of shoe hounds. Arranged by brand, most of the pairs at the well-stocked store for men and women are casual, but have a touch of streetwise flair. Comfort-minded walkers will find plenty of options: Keen sandals and Crocs, Børn and Ecco loafers, and Timberland and Ugg boots. Adidas and Chuck Taylors come in solid, multicolored, patterned, and screenprinted styles. Aside from these laid–back styles, there are also a few Kenneth Cole dress shoes for men and DKNY boots for women.
