Profile

Partners Michael Quinn, John Soroka, and Gary Alaimo first opened Delphinium as a floral shop, but soon tired of spending their days making dried-flower arrangements. The name stuck, though, and carried over to this, the trio’s next business venture: a home-accessory store with a bent toward the quirky and hard-to-find. The front of the packed-to-the gills space holds wall hangings like clocks and picture frames, which give way to high-end bathroom products, then kitchenware, and finally, an anything-goes section of candles, lamps, and tableware. Most of the items have a twist to them, though: the hand-crafted tin watering cans look like barnyard animals; the marble-tile coasters are printed with old Italian food labels or boldfaced numbers; the “ghostware” stemware fuses a wine glass into a pint glass; and the cocktail shakers are shaped like penguins. Particularly well-represented are stainless-steel Oxo kitchenware and pyramid-shaped Tea Forte bags. The original flower shop, recreated as Delphinium Card & Gift, is just around the corner and has a similar aesthetic but slightly smaller inventory.
