Derek Lam’s merges art and fashion. The space was designed by Tokyo-based design duo SANAA, friends of Lam’s whose past work includes the New Museum and other city museums ranging from Tokyo to Toledo, Ohio. The pair decked the space with clear acrylic partitions, creating movable, bubblelike pods that display ready-to-wear items, leather heels, and luxe outerwear. The gallerylike setting is immaculately stripped-down, from white-painted brick walls and floors to custom-made furniture, and fur-trimmed coats, vibrant silk gowns, and beaded tunics hang in neat rows. The boutique also houses limited-edition pieces, like a collaborative jewelry line with designer Dean Harris.
