Profile

This appointment-only Lexington Avenue showroom sets itself apart from most furniture stores with a standout collection of handcrafted modernist designs, plus works by a rotating group of contemporary designers. Although Designlush caters primarily to trade professionals (its pieces are often used on film and photo shoots, and it offers commercial interior-design services), the showroom is also open to the public. Visitors will find gems such as a set of “Eunice & Courtney” chairs with a white-hardwood frame and hand-painted pink-and-olive seat covers; a mirror made of layered walnut formed into the outline of a fish; and a stark desk made only of stainless steel and glass. There are also lighting fixtures (white antler sconces), rugs (carpets of thickly curled New Zealand wool), sofas (hot-pink suede lounges), and odds and ends (hand-blown glass vases that appear melted). Owner Stephen Mitchell will even collaborate with his wide network of master fabricators and woodworkers to create precise, one-of-a-kind custom pieces, but be warned—such perfectionism comes at a price.
