Diana & Jeffries
This venue is closed.
Before Diana Salen opened her eponymous boutique on the Upper East Side, she dreaded shopping for her own clothes. The problem? Too much selection in New York boutiques, but almost none of it targeted to her—a middle-aged woman who wanted to look sophisticated without appearing stuffy or overdone. Her solution was simple: Start a store with her husband, Jeffrey, and watch the shoppers swarm. After initial success and the opening of a second boutique (on the Upper West Side), Diana and Jeffrey decided to go beyond offering basics in their neat and tidy stores, both of which boast decors planned carefully to show off, not show up, the clothing. The stock now includes designer jeans that aren’t skin-tight or low-slung, and hip labels like TIBI and Nanette Lepore to supplement more traditional blazers and black cashmere turtlenecks—and create a look that’s fit for a Manhattan fortysomething.
Memorial Day, Labor Day, Post-Christmas, and seasonal sales.
