Dior Homme opened this store in February 2004 as a showcase for Hedi Slimane’s minimalist collection of suits, jackets, shoes, and accessories. Notorious for his unnervingly slim-cut suits, which prompted Karl Lagerfeld to shed 80 pounds to fit into them, Slimane channeled his spare style into this space as well. The bestselling nineteen-centimeter skinny jean is artfully displayed on icy, glass shadow boxes. A trio of black leather chairs with hidden speakers face an equal number of camouflaged dressing rooms that open into mirrored, trompe l’oeil interiors. The lofty price tags are in plain sight—but end-of-season sales are worth the wait. Longtime designer Slimane has long since left the building, but his mystique and fashion sense remains.
