Dulcinée shares its name with one of Marcel Duchamp’s many female muses, so it makes sense that it touts itself as a shop for anyone obsessed with fashion “from the 1880s to the 1980s”: The comic absurdity of that time span wouldn’t have been lost on the avant-garde trickster. Owner Mauren Léon, a former graphic artist herself, opened the vintage store in 2005 after growing tired of selling her stuff at the Chelsea Flea Market, where it offered the same wildly diverse gamut of goods: Ferragamo pumps, Dior belts, Gucci clutches, and, of course, vintage womenswear ranging from the casual and cozy (an azure Missoni cable sweater dress) to the timeless and sophisticated (a peony-pink silk secretary blouse by YSL). This is a spot well-suited to those who, not unlike Duchamp, prefer their fashions ready-made from whatever disparate items are at hand.
