Profile

This venue is closed.

Founded in 1997 by Swedish carpenter Per-Ivan Hagberg, Dunderdon bears many of the same proletarian qualities that set its birthplace—the port town of Gothenburg—apart from its more cosmopolitan neighbor, Stockholm. The constantly updated collection strives for function and simplicity, eschewing excessive detailing and overly complicated designs. Also like Gothenburg, whose indie-rock scene has been feeding New York’s for years, Dunderdon produces its own uniquely modern take on well-worn classics—in this case, heavy-duty but supremely wearable men’s and women’s work clothes. The “core” collection uses standard workshop materials like flannel, cotton-polymer, and cotton-canvas blends. Echoing classic American brands like Carhartt and Dickie’s, Dunderdon transforms traditional pants, button-ups, and zippered jackets into streamlined, sophisticated, utilitarian chic, making them favorites of architects, designers, and other high-brown craftsmen. The “fashion” collection’s micro-stripe seersucker shorts, plaid-cotton blouses, and tees with whimsical flora-and-fauna designs are a trendy counterpoint to Dunderdon’s more rugged offerings. Accessories like scarves, ties, and belts are also available, and the durable beach bags are especially popular, often selling out just days after they hit the store.
