Founded in 1996 at the first crest of the designer-denim craze, Los Angeles-based Earl Jean is still one of the mainstays of the industry. Known for their low-slung, slim silhouettes, the brand's original dark denim style, #55, has spawned a family tree of fits and washes, and has expanded to include fabrics like leather and corduroy. All are on display at the line's Soho boutique, in addition to a well-edited collection of casual wear for men and women and a handful of affordable jewelry. Set against exposed brick walls and wooden shelves, the non-denim stock offers simple, flirty skirts, men's woven buttondowns and plenty of T-shirts and tanks for layering. Expectant moms need not part with their favorite fit during pregnancy; Earl offers a maternity collection made from their most popular styles with added stretch inserts. — Carolyn Murnick
