This hippie hangout is like a little laid-back West Coast island in the eye of the Lower East Side’s storm of gritty rockers and chic boutiques. Starting as a classic health food store and café on street level, this multi-level temple to healthy living becomes less interested in commerce as it ascends skyward. Loafers can enjoy free wi-fi service in comfy armchairs while sipping organic coffee or wine on the second floor, snooze in the breeze on a couch on the commune-like third floor roof garden. The organic, vegan and raw deli food is worth taking out too, particularly salads such as the intensely flavored—and not too oily—roasted eggplant with cumin and lemon, the cool beet salad with lemon and parsley, and the seitan un-chicken with finely chopped pecans, celery, parsley and raisins.
