Profile
Though it sounds like a food store (not unusual, given E.A.T. Gourmet Foods right next door), this marble-tiled Madison Avenue gift shop actually stocks a mind-boggling array of novelty items and gifts. Most of the goods are geared towards young’uns, and the country-store-style shelves overflow with toys, magic kits, classical children’s lit, and dress-up angel wings. Tableware for tots comes in Le Petit Prince patterns, while glittery charms and novelty candy make ideal goody bag loot. The adult-oriented merchandise includes dozens of placemats, nostalgic ceramics with fleur de lis motifs, and a broad assortment of party products, including paper goods, fanciful piñatas, and even "singing" birthday candles. The calendar dictates the inventory: During back-to-school time, there are loads of lunchboxes; around Halloween, animated candy bowls crowd the shelves, while come November, customers can choose from oodles of Christmas crackers. Custom gift crates come wrapped in cellophane and tied with colorful curling ribbons, and the shop gladly incorporates baked goods from their sister deli.
