With a showroom about the size of a New York studio, Park Slope's Ecco Home Design has the feel of a cozily crowded friend's apartment—albeit one that has wall space for at least thirty, boldly-pattered handmade carpets and floor-to-ceiling bookshelves crammed with lush, oversized pillows. The contemporary furniture and home accessories store offers richly upholstered couches and chairs as well as tables, rugs, lamps, and various other living-room trimmings. All furniture is hardwood-framed and upholstered with Ecco's ample selection of fabrics. Other than its periodic sample sales, Ecco offers its larger pieces by custom order only; shoppers can pore through look books and browse a rotating mix of floor models to choose their items. While Ecco attracts a growing number of visitors from Manhattan, the store continues true to its neighborhood, and its clientele; in Park Slope, this means reasonably priced, durable furniture rugged enough to survive sticky fingers and muddy paws. The staff gladly supports their customers' interior-design endeavors with decorating advice, color consultations, and even the occasional site visit.
