Although it lacks an obvious storefront, ceramic pots overflowing with greenery mark the lush entryway to Emily Thompson’s rustic Dumbo flower studio, opened in fall 2009. There, the sculptor-turned-florist stuffs her tiny, white brick space with sculptures, stained glass, vintage family photographs, and an array of wild, ferny bouquets. Heaps of branches, fruit, feathers, and twigs are scattered around a long table that runs through the center of the shop. Thompson designs arrangements for private homes, restaurants and businesses, and special events, but her specialty is weddings, which showcase her aesthetic in nature-inspired bouquets and centerpieces. The shop also offers a weekly selection of seasonal cut flowers, as well as décor like pillows and tissue paper created by her similarly artistic friends.
