With limestone walls and floors, a glass staircase, and racks of everything from couture gowns to running shorts, Escada is a jet-setter's dream department store, with lots that's luxe under one fancy roof. Illuminated by soft pink lighting, the store displays its wares with the elegance and feminine flair that founder Margaretha Ley instilled in her label over 25 years ago. On the first floor, ostrich-print tables and pink shelves offer Escada accessories. Upstairs, giant Escada ads serve as a backdrop for slim business suits and tropical resort wear, all draped on plastic mannequins posed gamely throughout the space. The third floor houses Escada's famous couture studio, with ultra-slinky gowns in rich colors and cut from heavy silk.
ExtraArchitect and interior designer Stephen Miller Siegel, who also consulted David Lauren on Ralph Lauren's New York stores, designed Escada's New York flagship.
