Parents who find Baby Gap and Osh Kosh B’gosh too pedestrian for their little progeny visit Estella for its unique, high-end children's clothes. Showcasing styles from fashion-forward U.S. and European designers, husband-and-wife owners Chike Chukwulozie and Jean Polsky opened Estella to cater to tots with taste—or at least that of their parents and city-dwelling aunties and uncles. Most lines are from lesser-known labels and individual designers, easy for parents to mix and match; cashmere sweaters, satin party dresses, and wool pea coats are well-tailored and durable enough to withstand everyday playground and preschool stress. The carefully selected clothing offers depth without staggering volume; browsers won't feel that department-store overwhelm or the snootiness of an upscale boutique.
