Ella Sikorski, the Polish owner of this shop, chose the name ‘fanaberie” because it means “frills” in Polish. Shoppers find splashes of color everywhere, from the décor to the clothing, and black items are few and far between. Instead, the numerous dresses (they are the most popular purchase and there are always at least 30 different styles in stock at any given time) are covered in colorful polka dots, florals, and other patterns. There are also skirts, jeans (a group of rainbow-colored denim hangs from one rack), shorts, and blazers, along with all the accessories needed to complete a look, including sunglasses, scarves, handbags, and jewelry. Sikorski incorporates popular Polish stones amber and larimar in her inventory, and draws from local artists for some of the pieces in her collection. Almost everything in the store is less than $100, to accommodate the young clientele, and there are outfits suitable for everything from the office to a wild night out. As for the finishing touches, the store also hosts a makeup artist twice a month who offers fifteen-minute makeup sessions, free of charge.
