After a dalliance in the wholesale business, Parsons dropout Daniel Feldman teamed up with his brother to open this upscale menswear store in the East Village. Feltraiger was Feldman’s surname before it was Americanized a generation ago at Ellis Island. Thus, the company’s ensign is a Lady Liberty–like torch, meant to invoke an emigrant heritage familiar to many Americans. Each season is inspired by a subculture: camo-print items based on one-percenters with a hunting hobby, militarywear derived from draft dodgers, and leather jackets inspired by motorcycle-gang rebels. The black-and-white store itself is minimalistic save for two tables made from a crushed 1972 Dodge Dart. Keep your eyes peeled for celebrity clientele like Justin Bieber, whose video for “Boyfriend” features a Feltraiger vest.
