Specializing in turning vintage menswear into one-of-a-kind customs, this Williamsburg boutique creates unique pieces to stand out in the sea of usual suspects in New York’s monotonous streetwear scene. More than mere tailors (although they will do that), the owners of Ferris will take your poor, tired garments, yearning to be cool, and modify them with anything from a ten-dollar pocket adjustment to complex art and leather work. The custom work is all done in store and sometimes through collaborations with local artists, as is the case with a few colorfully designed bomber jackets. If you don’t have time to sift through your great uncle’s closet for old denim and wool, Ferris stocks a number of premade creations including bags and shoes, along with their own line of T-shirts and budget-priced beanies that are among their top sellers. The more intricate or ambitious the custom project, the higher the cost, but owner Taylor Conlin tries to keep things reasonable so everyone has a chance to experience the bespoke.
