Fig specializes in European antiques and combines sophisticated furnishings—a Louis XVI daybed, a mid-century Swedish credenza, églomisé mirrored tables—with unexpected home accessories, mirrors, and photographs. Owner Nina Garbiras applies a mix-and-match aesthetic to her merchandise. “I don’t subscribe to one period—I love mid-century, but I also love furniture from France in the 1940's,” she says without the slightest pretense. An ever-changing accumulation of antique jewelry and accessories scoured from French, English, and Italian flea markets as well as Continental estate sales ensures the merchandise changes frequently: Once a piece leaves the store, it is immediately replaced by whatever strikes the owner’s whim. — Caroline Callahan
