London-based designer Deborah Baker has chosen an unassuming Soho storefront for her New York flagship. The faded cobblestones on Mercer St. match the vintage look of Baker’s designs, which are created by a small team of fifteen artisans who craft her line of shoes, sandals, handbags, boots and belts with leather from Italy's famed Marche region. New York’s shop is the largest of the brand’s three worldwide locations (the others are in London and Bologna) and boasts a selection exclusive to this location. The footwear, which has graced the feet of celebrities like Tom Cruise and Gwyneth Paltrow, is arranged on a sort of 3-D bookshelf at the front of the store, while the occasional handbag or belt hangs from the wall. Vintage bric-a-brac, such as an Italian foosball table, fills the rest of the space, with the overall effect being that of an artfully disheveled living room.
