Profile
The landlocked neighborhood of Cobble Hill has a scarce number of markets of fresh seafood. One notable exception is this gourmet fishmonger. Exposed rafters and nets on the wall conjure an appropriately seafaring mood, but the huge selection of seafood, bought every morning at the Fulton Fish Market, attracts the customers. Besides fresh samples of the usual fare, the store offers seasonal and unusual specialties like Copper River Salmon (available only three weeks a year, beginning mid-May) and New Zealand green-lipped mussels. Rock lobster tails, frog legs and king crabs populate the frozen food section, and prepared entrées and packaged foods—Swedish herring, caviar and smoked trout, fresh gumbo and sushi makings—represent just about every ocean. Complimentary lemons sit in a basket (two per customer), and a whole rack of take-home recipes, organized by fish, sits by the door to help chart a culinary course.
ExtraDelivery and catering are also available in Carroll Gardens, Boerum Hill and Brooklyn Heights.
