It’s easy to miss this floral shop—discreetly set on Atlantic Avenue along the waterfront—but owner Charlotte D’Costa-Taylor has cultivated a following of locals, neighborhood hotels and eateries, and cruise lines that dock at Red Hook. The store will deliver anywhere in the city and emphasizes attentive service—Taylor often surprises customers by emailing them a photograph of the flower arrangement they’ve commissioned so they can see exactly what will arrive on the doorstep of the recipient. The double-paneled glass storefront opens into a small room with a refrigerator full of flowers imported directly from Holland: hydrangea, amaryllis, calla lilies, hyacinth, delphinium, and snap dragons, among others. Along the walls are tables covered with potted orchids and seasonal knickknacks (in the winter, you’ll find a nativity, plastic icicles, and faux-evergreen garlands). There are also brightly colored glass necklaces and bracelets made by Masai tribes in Kenya, and a second, larger room in back is filled with assorted gift items like glass-mosaic candleholders, handmade olive-oil soaps, and vases.
