Florsheim makes it easy: men’s shoes, generally leather, often dressy. For over a century, the company has stuck to these criteria to become the sui generis for decently priced dress shoes. Wing tips, oxfords, slip-ons, lace-ups, with toe caps, without tassels—whatever the style, Florsheim construction emphasizes qualitative comfort at a price rarely over $180. The fanciest shoes, in the Imperial Collection, will impress the boss with calfskin uppers and pre-flexed leather soles even as its cushioned footbeds leave you with little complaint. For the khaki crew, there’s F-sport, a line of casual kicks built around an Ortholite insole and atop flexible rubber-and-polyurethane soles. Sizes stretch from 5 to 18 and from very wide to very narrow. The store also carries brands like Ecco, Børn, Stacy Adams, and Sebago. As might be expected, cedar trees and shine kits are available in addition to socks, wallets, and belts.
