Well-known to shoe hounds and fans of Italian fashion, Fratelli Rossetti's small uptown store stocks indestructible men's loafers and a surprising selection of women's pumps and heels. The softly lit shop separates its stock by gender, with men's shiny black oxfords and suede driving moccasins in one area, and pretty stilettos in seasonal color combinations for women in need of a fine-shoe fix. The shop also proudly displays their collection of handbags—beautifully built and classically shaped shoulder bags and clutches in a wide spectrum of colors, from neutrals like traditional brown and black to jewel-toned purple and red. While the store's offerings aren't the most innovative or fashion forward, there's something to be said for valued classics—just ask the savvy Americans who come home from Italy, suitcases crammed with Rossetti. The New York store also stocks the full line of men's and women's leather jackets and shearling coats.
At this chic boutique, the ballet flat never goes out of style. They stock suede, satin, and quilted leather slippers in multiple shades and colors, all with an adjustable cord that makes them ideal for those with flat, wide, or high-arched feet. Starting in March, the store will offer a flat in a dyeable satin (in cream or white). (The store can't do the dyeing, but they will refer you to Upper East Side shoemakers who can customize the color to match a swatch.) Check for sales before the new season-typically in January or February and late August-to find 30 to 70 percent markdowns.
