This Lower East Side streetwear store was opened in 2007 by a tight-knit group of BMX enthusiasts. The shop is modern and sparsely decorated; one of the only pieces of furniture is a worn wooden grind box resembling a gym bleacher stationed near the doorway for trying on kicks. Bright, colorful sneakers fill a wall of store-spanning white shelves, from collectible crowd-pleasers like Nike SBs, Dunks, and Air Jordans to stylish canvas lace-ups from brands like Lotek and Triple 5 Soul. A display near the register offers wedge posts, pedals, handlebars, and other assorted bike accessories from Animal and Fit. Racks lining the opposite wall hold a constantly replenished selection of apparel, including plaid button-downs and jeans from Animal, hoodies from Skavenger and Lavar, and the requisite batch illustrated T-shirts from a small cache of arty streetwear brands like Manmade and Elevated Empire. Front Street tees touting the store are available in a range of bold colors, including one local favorite depicting the logo as the message inside a cracked fortune cookie—a clever nod to the shop’s proximity to Chinatown.
