Gant was founded in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1949 and quickly became the go-to outpost for the preppy young men of Yale University. Though the company now has worldwide locations, its Ivy League roots still run deep. This small West Village men’s boutique is the alternative to Gant’s two-floor flagship location on Fifth Avenue. Exposed brick walls, antique props, and Yale pennant flags give the shop the same vintage, rugged feel as the clothing. The store carries the Gant, Gant Rugger, and Gant by Michael Bastian collections—in 2010, Bastian, 2011’s CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year, began creating a line for Gant imbued with the American heritage look that marks his signature collection.
