Children roam free and gleeful at this celebrated toy emporium, founded in 1995, that offers a kind of anti-FAO/ToysRUs shopping experience. Specializing in handmade toys and collectables, the narrow, mobile-festooned space attracts discerning parents seeking playful alternatives to Barbie and Sponge Bob. Toddlers may find themselves inexplicably drawn to plush stuffed animals from classic names like Steiff or a soft baby doll with eyes that open and close. The Dorothy doll comes complete with basket and toy Toto. For doll aficionados, the store carries a well-edited selection from Madame Alexander and the French line Corolle. For older kids— Geppetto’s stocks offerings for children up to age 12—try the electronic GeoSafari globe, a range of craft and you-build-it-kits, and appealing, large-format books. — Carolyn Murnick
I've been shopping at Geppetto's Toy Box for over 10 years (since before it moved to its current location). The store owner puts a great deal of thought into the items they stock, and it's such a warm atmosphere. Almost every gift I've purchased there has become a favorite of the child it's gone to. Great place.
I have been a fan of Geppettos' for ten years. Last time I visited I was searching for presents for a newborn and a seven year old. With the wonderful store co-owner's help, I decided on a Mozart Magic Cube and a X-stream Internal Wing Aircraft by IwaToyCo. Feeliing inspired, I also picked up a Lamaze My First Fishbowl, Winkel Teether by Manhattan Toy, a Cow Zippity Book Toy and Folkmanis bunny puppet to catch up on gifts for other friends. Needless to say, I go to Geppettos' because it's the only stop I need to make.
