Profile
This store’s namesake was an old-time hockey player whose company started off as an equipment outfitter at the old Madison Square Garden on 50th and Eighth. Now, nestled in an alcove of the relocated Garden, his family business primarily pushes two aisles of licensed merchandise—one of which concentrates on hockey equipment. Unsurprisingly, fans gravitate toward the other row where stacks of fitted caps for every major-league team sit under framed and matted autographed photos of local icons like Mark Messier, Pedro Martinez, and Jeremy Shockey. But even more appealing are the customized player jerseys festooning the ceiling. If a certain player isn’t in stock, a name and number can be pressed or stitched onto any jersey (from infant to XXXL) with a two-week turnaround. They know what they’re doing, too: These guys used to do the lettering on the Rangers’ game jerseys.
