Created in 1975, Ghurka is an American company focused on the fine art of handcrafted leather. The brand’s closetlike outpost at the Plaza Hotel is filled with its signature leather and twill bags and luggage, held together with brass hardware and stamped with the Ghurka crest, bag name, and exclusive registration number. Chestnut- and chocolate-colored leather (sourced in Italy, Spain, and Connecticut, and buffed and polished by hand), putty-colored twill, and green plaid lining highlight pieces such as golf bags, rolling luggage, women’s handbags, briefcases, and hefty overnight carry-ons. The label’s attention to craftsmanship and detail also applies to accessories like luxe backgammon sets, luggage tags, key rings, wine caddies, shoehorns, and garment bags featuring incredibly supple leathers with gorgeous patinas.
