Both the clothes and the Madison Avenue setting reflect designer Gianfranco Ferré's aesthetic—wild Italian nights, exotic Asian destinations, and the cush world of charity galas and formal uptown offices. While his designs don’t occupy the same economic stratosphere of Versace or Dolce & Gabbana, they do evoke strong responses: People seem to either love or hate the collections, and devotees are a deeply devoted bunch. The store’s grand two-story space—white-polished floors, glass shelves, cream leather screens, and expanses of wood paneling—provides visual engagement at every turn. The assertive interior design reflects the nature of the clothes; both the men’s and women’s lines exhibit a highly fashion-forward, European feel. Men’s suits, blazers and bold ties, as well as more casual pieces are downstairs, while women’s gowns—some heavy with beadwork, others in animal prints, decorated with embroidery, or swirling yards of chiffon—business-appropriate suiting and resort wear lie upstairs. Accessories include striking sunglasses, chunky jewelry and cufflinks, and exotic-leather goods, including shoes, small business-card holders, and outsized travel bags, ideal for jetting off to Ibiza in high season. — Andrew Sessa
