Profile
This venue is closed.
With its hand-painted floors, minimalist decor, tin ceiling, and girlie folk music, this tiny Nolita boutique exudes a somewhat earthy, self-made feel —not exactly what you'd expect from its stealthy, feline moniker, a nod to what Russian owner Anya Ponoroskaya nicknamed her childhood girlfriends. But the girl-cat this shop caters to is evidently fluffy and sweet (and likely de-clawed), judging from its modest collection of sexy, classic pieces: hand-embroidered coats, sequined tops, flirty cocktail dresses, cashmere tanks, and sparkly costume jewelry. Girl Cat carries uber-feminine clothes and accessories by designers from around the world, in styles that might be best described as urban panache with a slight whiff of hippie chick. Popular items include a collection of alligator wallets, fur clutches, and coveted Ananas leather purses. Word has it that Ponoroskaya is judicious in her clothing selections, and carries only a few pieces in each size—hence her sparsely stocked store—to help keep the Girl Cat look distinctive and one-of-a-kind.
SalesNo proper sales, but there is an ongoing end-of-season sale rack in the back of the store.
