The San Francisco–based designer brings sophisticated leather heels, boots, and ballet flats fit for the office to her first New York boutique. The shop carries Chen’s two lines—the eponymous Joy Chen line of casual flats and day-to-night pumps, and the more-upscale Glory Chen collection, named after her father. Both lines incorporate shades of white, black, and tan, as well as girlie pairs in lavender and pale pink. You’ll find no stacks of shoe boxes or discarded shoes scattered about—large gray suede benches and generous mirrors make for relaxed browsing in the spacious shop. The Joy line features subtle accents like short zippers running up the toes, overlapping straps, delicate laces, and slightly ruffled edges around the heels, while the Glory pairs are more elaborate, like knee-high boots of woven embellished leather. Heels top out at three and a half inches, tapered to a point, for comfort and style.
