Having grown tired of overpaying for clothes at sparse Manhattan boutiques, Park Slopers Ashley Gold and Susan McInerney designed Goldy+Mac to be the antithesis of the disappointing, picked-over city shop. As a result, the atmosphere is relaxed and homey, the prices are reasonable, and more gems are stocked at this boutique than at most competitors twice its size. Set off by an exposed brick wall, the narrow store carries everything necessary to dress the demure clientele from head to toe—as well as the accessories they'll need to complete the outfit. Assortments of delicate earrings and leather clutches are flashy complements to the boutique's embellished dresses and sharp denim, and though the shoe collection is limited, it's an excellent source for patent leather ballet flats and flat boots. True to the owners' vision, the boutique also specializes in secondary (and affordable) lines such as BCBG's To the Max, and Red Engine jeans. It's also a good place to discover tomorrow's designers.
